Southam Lodge, Contemporary Country House

A large contemporary country house situated at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment, sited within an open meadow with expansive views across the surrounding landscape. The building is composed as a series of discrete volumes articulated by carefully integrated dry-stone walls, creating a strong relationship between architecture and terrain. The central living wing features a deep over-sailing roof supported on oversized stone pillars, establishing sheltered outdoor spaces while providing solar shading to the glass curtain walling beyond.

The symmetry of the composition deliberately references the classical country house, yet is expressed through a contemporary language that responds to modern living and the specificity of place. Generous openings frame views to the distant landscape, and material restraint ensures that the architecture feels both rooted in the Cotswolds and unequivocally of its time.
